Okay, so this one had been sitting on my list for a while. On paper, going to the movies alone seems easy, right? But when I actually thought about it, it felt a bit… lonely.

I kept waiting for the right movie. Something I’d be excited about—but also something nobody else I knew would want to see. Then it happened.

Gran Turismo.

Yes, the gamer-turned-racer movie. And yes, I was weirdly hyped.

Backstory: I love cars. Always have. I even used to play Gran Turismo as a (slightly unhinged) teen—though I’m sure my parents would describe me as an angel (😉). So this was it. This was the movie. And I was doing this alone.

I put on something comfy-but-cute, did a little makeup, and headed out. Walking into the cinema solo felt... weird. Like, should I fake-text someone to look busy? For a second, I pretended I was meeting someone inside.

But let’s be honest: nobody cared. Nobody was looking at me. Nobody was wondering “Why is she alone?” People were too busy getting snacks or fighting over the armrest.

And that was the first little victory: realizing that if I let fear of “looking weird” stop me from doing things alone, I’d miss out on a lot. So I pushed through.

Popcorn? ✅

Drink? ✅

Seat in a nearly empty theater? YES.There were only four other people in the whole place—which made it feel even more freeing. I didn’t have to share snacks. Didn’t have to whisper comments. Didn’t have to worry if someone else was bored or needed a bathroom break.

I just watched the movie.Fully. Quietly. Blissfully solo.

Gran Turismo was better than I expected. I mean:

🚗 Fast cars

🎮 Gaming nostalgia

🔥 Competition

👀 Orlando Bloom AND David Harbour (you have my attention)

AND it’s based on a true story?! Yes please.

I’m so glad I finally did this. Now, I don’t think twice about seeing a movie alone. It’s peaceful. It’s empowering. It’s just… nice.

So if you're hesitating to do something solo—don’t. Whether it’s the movies, a restaurant, or even a trip—sometimes your own company is the best company.
